Cake Smash sessions are a fun way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday. What could be more fun then your child making a big mess with a cake as I capture every moment on camera?
Believe it or not, many of the kids that come in for their cake smash, don’t really like the cake. The texture, the taste, the frosting sticking to their fingers. It is a new experience for your growing baby and some kids are just not fans. I always recommend parents expose their baby to cake before the session but that does not always work.
Jolene was one of those kids who was not a fan of cake. Her parents shared that at the time of booking her session. When you have a child who does not like cake - what do you do? Come up with Plan B - a PAINT SMASH!

Meet Jolene. This little one is as about adorable as they come! I have had the pleasure of capturing her since she was a wee little newborn.
We decided to do paints for Jolene’s first birthday photos. Paints are a fun alternative way to celebrate their birthday and still capture the messy fun.
Bright Primary Colors
Mom wanted bright primary colored balloons to match the paints being used - which were baby paints by Crayola (safe for babies). I found the cutest little easels on Amazon. The overalls were the absolute perfect touch for this session, provided by mom.
Messy Fun!
It did not take long for the fun to begin. Jolene got her toes in the paint and then her feet and tracked it all over the paper. She tasted her paint brush and gave herself green lipstick. She was not sure what to think of all of this fun.
After she had enough of the paints, I took out the little tub to wrap up her session. As with most kids who have been in this tub, she loved it! She brought in her paint brushes and had a blast.
