Baby E | Cake Smash Photography Seattle
Cake smash sessions are a fun way to celebrate and capture your growing baby as they hit their one-year birthday! Not all cake smash sessions go as planned. These little individuals have their own personality and likes/dislikes. While the parents and I may have a vision in mind for the session, sometimes the baby has their own plan.
Let me introduce you to Elijah!

Little Elijah came into the studio for his cake smash. Although he was all smiles as his family brought him up the walkway, things changed when he got inside the studio.
Kids this age tend to be shy more often than not. Part of my plan at the beginning of a session is to get them to warm up to me and to trust me. I make funny noises and faces, I find something that may interest them such as a stuffy or a toy. I will even go as far to put “Baby Shark” music on my phone and do a little dance.
Elijah was not having what I was selling this day. There were tears and clinging to mom. His aunt even showed up and he still was not happy. He was not screaming, but there were tears and everything we tried was not working. We tried everything…
Finally I decided to change it up. Mom said he likes baths so why not start with the tub splash first! As soon as mom undressed him, his tears dried up. Although he was a little hesitant at first to get into the tub, he quickly realized this was FUN!
This kids splashed water all over the floor. He laughed and smiled and was having a great time! I had just picked up this little tub a couple of weeks before. It has been a HUGE hit at my cake smash sessions. The babies love it!
It was now time to take him out of the tub and put a cake in front of him. I was a bit concerned that the tears would return.
Cake Time!
It turns out that he was in such a great mood after his bath that he was excited to make a mess with his cake.
Once he got a taste of that frosting, that’s all it took. He was all in. We got lots of smiles and laughs as he proceeded to destroy his cake.
We were able to capture some amazing pictures. Things may not have gone exactly as planned but in the end I was able to capture this sweet boy smiles and all.
