Newborn Sessions

Newborn Sessions

Newborn sessions typically last between 2-3 hours. This accommodates feeding times, set changes and messy clean-ups. I keep my studio nice and warm, so your baby is comfortable and sleepy. Be sure to wear lightweight clothing to stay comfortable!

  • Each booking will begin with a consultation so that we can tailor your photos specifically to you. Additional consultation via email or telephone will be included as needed leading up to the session to finalize the details of your session.
  • An array of props to capture your newborn will be provided by the photographer. If there is a special prop that you would like to include in your session, please let me know in advance so I can plan to incorporate into your session.
  • Sibling and parent photos with baby may be included in the session if desired.
  • An online ordering gallery you can share with your family and friends will be available about 3 weeks after your session. This gallery will remain online for a period of 14 days. A mobile device gallery is also included, and will remain active for one year.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best age to photograph my baby?
I recommend bringing baby in between 5-21 days of age to have the best success in capturing those sleepy squishy poses.

How long is the session?
Newborn sessions depend on the baby. Sessions can take 2-3 hours depending on the baby. I allow plenty of time for feeding and for snuggles to settle baby if needed.

What should we bring?
Bring yourself and plenty of diapers and food for the baby and of course snacks for yourself. I have all the props needed, however if there is something special you would like me to incorporate please be sure to let me know ahead of time so I can plan for it.

How do we prepare prior to the session?
I recommend keeping baby awake before the session for 1- 1.5 hours. Feed baby before leaving the house, and dress baby in loose diaper and sleeper that is front button/zipper and does not need to be pulled over the head. We will get started upon arrival if baby is sleepy.

What should we wear for parent and sibling shots?
I recommend solid colors – black or white. I also highly recommend a wrap for mom (which I will provide) and shirtless daddy if daddy is comfortable removing shirt for skin to skin photos. Siblings can wear light solid colors or also shirtless (or wrap for sibling sister). Parent/sibling shots are done at the beginning of the session. If your session has been scheduled for outdoors I recommend dressing with layers that can be added or removed.

Can others attend the session?
Yes, but keep in mind my studio is small and can only accommodate a few people. A newborn session should be calm and quiet to be sure we capture the photos you envision. For younger siblings I recommend alternative care after sibling photos as newborn sessions can be very long and difficult for younger children to sit through.

What if my baby has acne?
No worries! I can zap those little blemishes out post-production.

What happens if I need to reschedule my session?
We understand that personal emergencies, illness or inclement weather sometimes require sessions to be rescheduled. We kindly ask that you provide as much notice as possible in order to make the time available for other clients.

What happens if I have to cancel my session?
All appointments that are cancelled due to an emergency may be rescheduled.  If the 2nd appointment time that was made is cancelled for any reason the client will loose the deposit made.  If an appointment is cancelled, the client has up to 2 weeks to reschedule or they risk loosing the deposit.  If a client cancels more than twice, the photographer reserves the right to not make any further appointments. Client forfeits the 50% paid to book the session date and will act as a cancellation fee. The fee can be credited towards a future session if the client reschedules the appointment by calling 2 weeks prior to the date of session and re-booking at an agreeable date and time.
